 With the intention of enhancing research capabilities at Tokyo Institute of Technology, the Research Administration Center will host the Presentation Skills Workshop. By assisting researchers in improving their presentation skills, this workshop is expected to promote international collaboration and joint publication. This workshop is supported by the MEXT Program for Promoting the Enhancement of Research Universities.

 In this interactive workshop, native English-speaking lecturers will provide basic knowledge on presentation skills and activities in which to discuss how to improve presentations and materials (Session 1, Lecture), and hands-on presentation practice using slides prepared by participants (Session 2, Presentation Practice).

  • Session 2 (Presentation Practice): 13:30-17:30 (check-in desk opens at 13:15)
    Preparatory assignments will be given.
    Participants must prepare and submit slides by Friday, March 3, which will be edited and returned to participants. Participants must bring those slides to Session 2.

  *Presentation Practice, 15 minutes per person x 15 people
  • Each participant makes a presentation with 5 slides (the first slide, 3 slides for introducing the research, and the final slide), prepared as an assignment, and handles a Q&A session for about 10 minutes in total. Lecturers will comment on the presentation.
  • Then, a feedback form will be distributed to other participants. The lecturers will collect the forms with anonymous comments on the presentation, and give them to the presenter on the spot, which enables the presenter to utilize the comments to improve his/her presentation skills.

  • No fee is required to attend the workshop.
  • Workshop materials will be distributed on the day of the workshop.
  • Participants of Session 2 must submit the assignment by Friday, March 3.
  • Attendees may bring a dictionary.

Eligibility

Faculty and staff members, researchers, and students at Tokyo Tech
Note: Those who wish to attend Session 2 should also attend Session 1.

Screening and Selection

 The head of the Research Administration Center will screen applications received before the deadline and select applicants to attend the workshop. In screening applicants for Session 2, consideration will be given to those who plan to present at an international conference in the near future. Also, in screening for Session 2, priority will be given to applicants who are able to attend both Sessions 1 and 2.

 After carefully reading the objectives of the workshop, complete and submit the application form on the following web page. The Research Administration Center will screen applications received before the deadline and select applicants to attend the workshop.
